Naperville Permit Rules — and Why They Make a Licensed Roofer More Important, Not Less
Here's something most homeowners don't know: the City of Naperville does NOT require a building permit for a standard asphalt shingle roof replacement as long as the existing sheathing stays in place. Permits are only required for metal, wood, slate, or sealed-membrane roofs, or if the deck is being replaced.
That sounds convenient — but it actually cuts both ways. With no automatic city inspection, there's no built-in safety net to catch a fly-by-night job. The State of Illinois still requires that your roofer be properly licensed and insured. We hold IL Residential Roofing License #104.019489 and Commercial #105.009527, plus full liability coverage. We also pull permits whenever the job requires one (metal, wood, slate, decking work) and handle every step.
